MUTAMBE AKASUBA

Mutambe Akasuba, meaning to stare in wonder at the sun, is a lodge and wellness centre built around a natural hotspring, named by the Bemba after the water spirit Kabangama.

The facility offers accomodation, a restaurant and bar for the passing traveller eager for a relaxed getaway, as well as conferencing and studio facilities for groups and insititutions. The facilities also include a camping site, as well as picnic sites with access to the hotsprings and waterfall. Our library is open to guests staying at the lodge.

Cultivated using indigenous plants, the surrounding gardens were designed as a garden of peace enhancing the natural forest.  Overlooking the valley and rising sun, the lodge provides a serene retreat to connect with nature and oneself as a gateway to introspection and conscious growth.

KABANGAMA HOTSPRING

Kabangama means 'the source' in Bemba. Indeed,  three natural pools of varying heat, as as well a swimming pool fed by the natural spring provide a range of temperatures to unwind, float and disentangle oneself from daily concerns.

The natural pools, encircled by reed walls allow for privacy and connection.  Believed by the Bemba to be a guardian of the spring, the spirit Kabangama provides access to healing and purification.

REWILDING

Located on five hundred hectares of natural forest, Mutambe Akasuba provides ample opportunities to hike through Masuku woodlands, natural fern fields, and seasonal flower beds.  The spring meanders through the valley to form a river that cascades over a waterfall into a rock pool, ideally located for wild swimming .

KABANGAMA WATERFALL

Nestled in natural ferns and vines, the waterfall at the edge of the farm is always a cool and refreshing temperature to mark the conclusion of a hike.

Ablutions, picnic and camping site are available for those who wish to use the facilities at the waterfall. As well as hiking paths, the waterfall has road access for cars.
